Two White Trails begin at Island Road and end at the coast, intersecting with the other trails at various points.Ĭampers may bring their own kayaks. Spring Beach trail follows an old wagon route to the spring for which it is named. The Orange trail runs along the mostly wooded interior spine of the island before crossing Sailboat Beach and ending at Sand Dollar Beach. The Blue trail crosses Spring Beach and ends at Sailboat Beach. The Red and Blue trails hug the rocky coast, providing stunning views of the ocean. Several trails offer campers short hikes across the varied terrain of the island north of the main campground area. Limited parking is available at these beaches. The north facing beaches include Spring Beach (access only by water or trail), Sailboat Beach, Bounty Cove, and Sand Dollar Beach. Sunset Lagoon faces northwest, in the same area. Dune and West Dune beaches face west and are within the main campground. Head Beach is at the south end near the entrance to the Campground The public has access to this beach. Boats under 20' are "first come, first served" at the Yankee Dock longer boats require a reservation for a marina slip. The Yankee Dock and Marina Dock offer spaces for campers to launch and keep small boats. The Gift Shop sells a small selection of items such as t-shirts, mugs, sea-glass jewelry, and books. It is also where campers check in during the Off-Season.We also sell clams and lobsters - you can rent a pot if you want to cook them yourself, or order some cooked to take back to your campsite. Our camp Store sells groceries, beer and wine, ice, wood, batteries, beach toys, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a small selection of camping gear. The Snack Bar is only open during the main summer season. We have many delicious flavors of Gifford's ice cream as well. The Snack Bar serves breakfast starting at 7:30, lunch, and dinner until 8:30. Seating is picnic tables inside and outside on the deck overlooking Head Beach. The Snack Bar is at the back of the Kelp Shed. A pool table and several video games are located here, as well as two outdoor ping pong tables and a sand volleyball court. We also post notices about nature walks and upcoming events, answer campers' questions, and provide a place to sit by the fire on a rainy day. Reservations and check-ins are handled at the Kelp Shed. Only registered campers are allowed in the campground - no visitors, please. Bathrooms - flushing toilets, composting toilets, porto-potties, and pit toilets - are located across the campground and near the beaches.Ĭampers drive across a sand causeway to get to Hermit Island. 9 (Kelp Shed, Snack Bar, and Gift Shop closed)Įach campsite has a fire pit, a picnic table, room for your equipment, and a parking space for one car. We welcome campers with tents, pop-up trailers (up to 25'), and truck campers, but no RVs or hard-topped campers. There are 271 sites spread across the southern end of the island, each unique.
